Race Notes:

It was a calm and cool night as the runners began to gather in the waning light of the day. Bikes were ridden to the event to ensure a safe post-race exit. Grant "The Shark" Cuphl discussed strategy and location of the start and transition areas with Barry "the Legend" Hubsch as they walked the field to the far side of the track. As darkness set in, Doug "the Mayor" DeRock arrived and presented his four beverages to the officials for verification that they were in fact regulation. All concurred the regulations and standards had been adhered to. The Mayor also informed us that a new participant would be joining us. Stephie Mac arrived and was unsure she was in the right place, since we were now in total darkness. She is a great competitor and wanted to learn more about this momentous event. Bringing Coors light, her time would not count as official, but she would show her stuff during the race and be primed and ready for the fall classic.

The runners gathered at the start line, a road hazard barricade to allow for easy sighting in the dark. fingertips at the ready, the race was started with a chorus of four cans popping. the mayor slammed his first and was off and running in a flash, with Stephie "the rabbit" Mac close behind. Sharko took off ahead of the legend. then Barry caught up after the first lap, the beers flowing much easier on 2, 3 , and 4. as the legend rounded the last curve, The Shark shouted out an encouraging " NINE FIFTY!". the pace quickened and Barry improved his time by 5 seconds and the mayor improved by 40 seconds from the fall classic!! Grant came in with a respectable 13:11, outstanding for a first time racer. the rabbit's time is unofficial at 11:00, but a good lesson was learned on the proper execution of THE BEER MILE. At palmers we discussed the merits of the evening event and solved most of the worlds problems.
