For those of us who were unable to compete in our conference championship meet because we either weren't fast enough, quit the team, are injured, are on academic probation, or all of the above...there is the beer mile.

Race Summary:

Both competitors ran together for 3/4 of the race. They ran at about 8:00/mile pace for the first 2 laps until the alcohol and carbonation started to kick in. BK dropped his cell phone on the 2nd lap. He was holding it so that his friend who was keeping a lookout could call if he saw any cops approaching. It was later picked up on the 3rd lap. Both competitors entered the final exchange zone neck and neck. BK then threw down a wicked 64 second last lap to win the race. Just as the race was finished, a campus police car pulled into the parking lot and then approached the field with its lights turned off. BK and Special K frantically threw all the empties into their bag and took off running. The bag of empty bottles was thrown into the bleachers as they fled the scene.

Post Race Comments:

BK: "It was really cold and windy...almost like a hurricane was coming or something. So I drafted off of Special K for the first two laps."

"I just let out a really big burp after the last beer and was able to kick real hard."

"I had to chuck the bag full of empties into the bleachers. So I might need a new school bag."

Special K:"He got about a 2 second lead coming out of the final exchange zone. I thought, alright, I'll be ok if I can stay close to him. Then all of a sudden he opened up a 100 meter gap."
